It was another terrible shock when I received the call that my brother, Brent, had died.  He was 46 years old and chose to end his pain by ending his life.   I had spoken to him the evening before and I knew he was depressed because his wife was seeing another man.  They had been married 18 years, still lived together and had 4 young children at home.  While we spoke she was getting ready to go out to be with the other man.  Brent even commented to me that he wished he could be put down like a dog.  I talked to him about that statement but never in my wildest dreams thought he would actually commit suicide hours later.

Death is not the greatest loss in life.
The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.

Survivors of Suicide

I found this picture of Brent with our Great Aunt Martha which was taken when he was in the 2nd grade.   Aunt Martha adored Brent.  The last few times Brent and I talked he mentioned Aunt Martha many times.  He said he was so disappointed  his marriage wasn't like Aunt Martha and Uncle Alf's.  He wanted his marriage to be more like theirs, dedicated to each other, their family and GOD.  He asked if life will ever be like it was when they were alive.  Aunt Martha was truly an angel working here on earth and I believe Brent is with Aunt Martha again.

This is a soft and beautiful angel image yet he looks so sad.  Brent was a soft and gentle man and tragically had an overwhelming sadness in his life.  I pray Brent has been released from his sadness and pain.

Brent let his hair grow long in the months before he died.  His wife thought it would make him look younger.  He joked about how Mom would flip if she saw him with his hair in a pony tail.  He had such beautiful red hair, the freckles to go with it, blond eyebrows and eye lashes.  He was as ornery as he looked, with a personality sorta like Opie/Ron Howard on the Andy Griffith Show years ago.  Heavenly Thoughts - Copyright by Danny Hahlbohm. Recently I read, "A 1994 Gallup poll found that 72% of Americans believe angels exist; and 76% of teens and people under 21 believe in the heavenly hosts. For Christians, the figure is 83%."  Angels are not just a fad. The heavenly hosts have been with us since the beginning of creation and will continue to do their work, whether or not we pay attention to them.  Thy Will Be Done - Copyright by Danny Hahlbohm.
